Fraud PreventionA growing trend in email security is identity theft, and a very sophisticated method has become epidemic in scale. The methodology is to send out legitimate looking emails that claim to be from large, reputable companies such as Citibank, E-bay and Suntrust, to name a few.
Invariably, these frauds will claim that your account is subject to termination, your credit card has expired, that a security breach has taken place or some other plausible reason to motivate the user to log into the company's web site. Unfortunately it is very easy for the perpetrators to spoof both emails and web sites that appear to be legitimate when viewed within the typical email client or browser. Without a fairly technical understanding of HTTP and email protocols the average user has little clue that these emails are actually attempts to fraudulently gain personal and financial information (typically including: User Names and Passwords, Financial, Credit Card and Social Security numbers) that can be later used to commit financial and identity theft. In response, OnlyMyEmail's systems provide a layer of protection in analyzing and validating such "Phishing" (as they are commonly known) emails before they are delivered to end users. Once identified, such messages are removed and clearly marked as "Fraud" so that innocent users can be assured that they will not be lured into the Phishing trap. |
